One of the features of the MakersLED heatsink are the slots on the side of the fixture which allow for cosmetic strips.
The cosmetic strips are good for 
adding some color – if you prefer something more than the look of aluminum. They also help you cover up any extra holes that may have been left behind if you change or upgrade your fixture.
The grooves are sized at 1.5m, so they will fit any 1mm thick sheet material. This 1mm thickness allows plenty of room for counter top laminate. If you stop by your local home improvement store, you will find many options, from black, to granite, to pearly white finishes.
On our last trip, we picked up a 4’x8′ sheet of white Formica laminate for $15. The piece we picked up was a little damaged, so we got it for half price!
We used a router with a 3/8″ bit. A 2×4 was used to clamp and the straight edge on the plywood was used to trim off the size we needed.
Once it was cut to width, we used a utility knife to score and snap the strip to the final length.
