Recipes for Commercial Fixtures:

Use these recipes paired with your MakersLED MakersHEATSINK and electronics to build improved versions of some of the popular LED lights on the market.


Reef Tank Recipes:

Some commercial reef fixtures have a tendency to add many Red and Green LEDs which are not necessary for full spectrum reef builds. Users typically find themselves turning these unnecessary LEDs down or completely off to avoid aesthetic issues. The prime example of this is the AI Vega which has terrible red and green disco effects. Use Red sparingly and use Green sparingly- if not at all.

These builds typically start with a 1:2 ratio of Neutral White:Royal Blue. Next, add additional colors like Cool Blue, Cyan/Turquoise, Deep Red, Violet, and possibly Cool White. Green is typically not needed (Use Cyan instead); Use very little Red.

For the most simple integration and pre-selected spectrum, we recommend the Lumia 5.1 and Lumia 5.2 LED series by LEDGroupBuy. Both of these multi-chip COB LEDs offer a native mounting footprint for the MakersLED heatsink.

Please Note: The blue and white XP-E LEDs used on many AI LEDs are dated technology and not recommended for modern LED builds. Replace XP-E’s on your own build with XT-E Series LEDs to for lower cost and greater output.

Vegetation / Grow Light:

  • A 4:1 mix of Deep Red:Royal Blue for the base
    • Optionally, add Red, Red-Orange, and Warm-White*

    *Other colors/spectrum may be added but have been shown to little to no growth performance for many crops

  1. does your controller allow to vary the red & blue leds to shuttle btwn more blue than red & visa versa for growing stages & flower stages?
